Secret Strategy: Let them pirate!

Microsoft suka kok kalau software-nya dibajak. Nggak percaya? Berikut petikan kata-kata Bill Gates sendiri:

“Although about 3 million computers get sold every year in China, but people don’t pay for the software,” he said. “Someday they will, though. As long as they are going to steal it, we want them to steal ours. They’ll get sort of addicted, and then we’ll somehow figure out how to collect sometime in the next decade.”

So, biarin mereka ngebajak, tunggu sampe jadi standard (i.e. via Network Effect) - toh someday kalo mereka mau “being legitimate” akan bayar juga. Kalo nggak, ya mustinya nyari country-director yg background-nya “collector”. ;-)

Seorang fans-nya Mac ngeposting: apa ini juga alasannya Apple mau support Intel untuk MacOS X, biar gampang dibajak? Hmmm… nggak yakin. Agak beda kasusnya. Orang beli OS kan sebenarnya bukan karena OS-nya, tapi karena aplikasi-aplikasi yg jalan di atasnya. Sekalipun MacOS bisa jalan di Intel, tapi kalo nggak bisa jalanin aplikasi yg udah mature di Windows, apa ada yg mau ngebajak?
